What shall we do this weekend?
What a pain, you wait all week for the weekend and when it gets here you’re stumped for things to do that aren’t going to cost you a fortune, it’s make or break, are you going to feel like you’ve wasted the weekend or are you going to feel like you’ve accomplished something?
If you are struggling with ideas, here is a list of 16 cheap things to do at the weekend.
1. Go for a walk
Enjoy the great outdoors.
It’s easy to forget, outside of our cityscapes there is a great big chunk of nature out there ready to be enjoyed.
2. Take up a hobby
Not knowing what to do is no excuse for not starting something, learning an instrument, sewing, knitting. If none of these floats your boat then maybe one of these 150+ hobby ideas might help you decide.
3. Learn something new
Just because you left school (insert your own number) years ago, doesn’t mean that you have to stop learning.
There are great platforms out there that allow you to learn just about anything for free or on the cheap.
4. Use your TV subscription
You’ve paid for it now use it.
Watch a film, maybe one of the 7 movies about money I recommend, or is there a television series that catch up on where you can just sit on your sofa in your pants with the curtains drawn and your sweets all lined up on the table.
5. Have a clear-out
Have a look around your house, you’ve probably got loads of things that you don’t need or want anymore. Maybe that exercise bike has served its purpose as a clothes horse or that spiralizer has just spiralized its last courgette.
Don’t just throw it away either, maybe there’s a car boot sale you can go to, sell it online or your local charity shop might benefit.
6. Go to a market or festival
Free food and drink!
If that hasn’t got your attention I don’t know what will. If there is a food market near you, you’re going to be able to try a lot of food, who needs to buy lunch when you can get it free.
If free food and drink isn’t your thing, try googling for markets in your area to see if there is anything that is your thing.
7. Catch up with friends
If you’ve still got any friends left maybe it’s time to reconnect, you never know you might actually enjoy their company.
Enjoy a drink and reminisce about the good old days and plan for new memories.
8. Do some exercise
You don’t need that expensive gym membership that you bought in the new year to get fit. If you have a bike get on it, do some push-ups, if you’re up to it do some HITT workouts
9. Read
This might come as a shock, but people still do read books. There are a million to choose from, so there’s no excuse that there isn’t one out there for you.
10. Relax
Who said that you had to do anything anyway? It’s your weekend you can do whatever you want.
11. Go on a picnic
Pack up a few sandwiches, drinks and snacks and take a drive to your nearest beauty shop. Why not take some outdoor games too and make a day of it.
12. Do those jobs you’ve been putting off
If you’re anything like me, the last thing you want to do at the weekend is tackle that to-do list that you’ve had for a few weeks.
There is nothing more satisfying though than being able to tick them off knowing that from then on the day or weekend is your own.
13. Do some batch cooking
If you’re looking to save money then you can’t go wrong with using your weekend to do some batch cooking.
Make your week’s meals on mass and get them frozen, this will also save you time during the week.
14. Learn some new recipes
If you find that you are buying the same things at the supermarket every week then why not learn some new recipes.
We probably all have a cookbook in our kitchen that we’ve only looked at once. Why not use your weekend to create some new family favourites if those new recipes can be cooked on a budget, all the better.
15. Take your dog out for a walk
Not only is taking a walk good exercise for your dog, but it also gets you out to meet other dog owners.
If you don’t have a dog, this might be the perfect opportunity to make an extra income by starting a weekend dog walking business.
16. Plan for the week ahead
Planning your week gives you some control over what you want to do in the week, while things won’t always work out as planned at least you’ll have a vague idea of what needs doing and how you are going to achieve them.
So what do you think?
